Baba Ceesay has more than three decades of experience in cultural resource management, starting as an Antiquities Officer in 1984 and eventually becoming the Director General of the National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) from 2012 to 2019. In this role, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the institution, implementing policy, managing relationships with partners, and providing advice to the Minister on arts and culture in The Gambia. Baba has also gained experience in human resource management, financial management, and project management. Baba has also undergone extensive specialized and practical training in various aspects of cultural resource management, including museum and monument management, research and documentation of oral traditions, and copyright administration. Baba's specialty is in the conservation and development of material cultural heritage in sub-Saharan Africa. Throughout Baba's career, he has led numerous successful projects, including gaining international recognition for Gambia's cultural heritage through UNESCO World Heritage Listings, and expanding the number of national and private museums in the country. Baba has also served as a consultant for UNESCO and other institutions on cultural heritage in various African countries, and has published articles and a book on the subject.
