Solange Laura Macamo is an Associate Professor in Archaeology and Built Heritage at the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of UEM- Eduardo Mondlane University, Maputo- Mozambique. From 2018-2022, she was co-leader of the Rising from the Depths research network in Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, and Madagascar, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) UK. She has coordinated numerous international and national research, teaching and heritage conservation projects. She also serves as the Director of the University Museum of Archaeology, under its Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Between 2010 and 2016 she was the National Director for Cultural Heritage in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, where she helped to develop heritage legislation, being, at the same time, the focal point at UNESCO Heritage Centre for matters related to the Island of Mozambique.
