Short Description
Main Objective
The Keana Salt Mining Village has played an important part in the economic development of Keana since its establishment over 800 years ago. It has also had a significant role in the development of cultural tourism in the region, especially since 2009 when it was designated as a national heritage site; the only one in the North Central Region. However, the mining village and heritage site are at risk, with deserted structures, degraded wild-natured environment and abandoned activities.
The project led by Every Girl Initiative (EGI) focuses on the need to urgently preserve the heritage site and related activities from possible extinction through restoration and conservation works. It is hoped that this will also boost tourist activities in the area and improve the socio economic and livelihood conditions of surrounding communities.
