Short Description
This project contributes to the preservation of the rich and diverse documentary heritage of Iraq. Working with the National Library and Archives of Iraq, the project delivers in-country and online training in preventive conservation, climate adaptation, and communication on heritage, as well as project management and fundraising. As a part of the training, with the support of the teachers, the participants will implement independent preventive conservation and climate change adaptation projects as well as outreach events in their institution

Main Objective
Building up the skills of archivists and librarians in Iraq; helping them work independently to preserve the archives and to build resilience.
Outcomes
- 20 professionals will be able to independently undertake preventive conservation projects in their institutions and train others. Their training will help to shift habits from focusing on expensive full conservation treatments to cost-efficient and effective preventive conservation.
- 20 professionals will be able to lead their institutions in climate change adaptation actions, including climate-related risk preparedness and the introduction of environmental policies.
- Through in-person and online discussions, the project will help to build a network of in-country professionals for mutual support and knowledge exchange.
- Online and in-person events will raise awareness about the richness and importance of archives in Iraq, and about the urgent challenges to their preservation.
