Short Description
Main Objective
The Imanzi Hill of Hope project is dedicated to restoring and preserving Imanzi Hill while safeguarding the memory of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The project will conserve the remaining ruins, which are mainly remnants of old accommodations, and establish memorial trails that guide visitors through the site’s history. New signage along these trails will provide historical context at key points, and traditional trees will be planted to mark the places where communities once lived.
The initiative will also create opportunities for the local community. Residents will be trained as tour guides, and portions of the land will be allocated to local farmers to provide them with a sustainable source of income. Beyond the immediate community, the project will partner with schools and universities to engage and educate young people, ensuring that the history of the genocide is remembered and passed on to future generations.
