Short Description
Main Objective
Lake Bosomtwe is a 1.07-million-year-old meteoric crater and one of only six meteoric lakes in the world. It is an area of cultural importance and in 2016, the lake and surrounding site were designated as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Lake Bosomtwe. However, as community spirit and knowledge of traditional history wanes, the cultural practices which protect the lake are being eroded.
The proposal by A Rocha Ghana aims to educate and engage local communities about the significance of the lake and the benefits it can bring through cultural tourism and eco-tourism. More specifically, it will also establish a medicinal plant garden, collaborating with local communities to prepare and sell traditional medicinal plants.
Outcomes
Preserve cultural heritage
Benefit the local community by increasing visitor numbers to lake and encouraging engagement with lake projects
