Main Objective
The Bondo Mosque was built in the 19th century and has significance as one of the first mosques built in Malawi and as a remnant of the Arab slave trade. The mosque was damaged by flood waters in the 1970s and a new mosque was built nearby. The original mosque site has been maintained and plays an important part in promoting a greater understanding of the East African slave trade.
The proposed project, launched by the Department of Museums and Monuments, aims to preserve the structure. Employing local people and using local materials, repairs to the structure will be make, drainage improved, and the survival of the site ensured.

Contribute to existing tourism market in the district to improve knowledge of East African slave trade.
