Nwali is the Vhavenda’s name for God, who they believed was the only creator of mankind on earth. Nwali was said to journey to and from Makonde Mountain where he rested and communicated with his people, leaving giant footprints in the molten rock on the way. 

The Vhembe Film Office proposes to create a safe and managed Heritage Route which narrates the story and history of Nwali, marking the different places he visited. In doing so, it will also protect and promote the Sacred Heritage sites of the region, promote conservation of Sacred Forests and renovate heritage buildings.
