Short Description
Main Objective
The project seeks to preserve and revitalise the endangered tradition of bark cloth making in Zambia by raising awareness and protecting the time-honoured techniques used in its manufacture. At the same time, it aims to promote environmental sustainability through reforestation and the adoption of sustainable harvesting methods, ensuring that the raw materials remain available for future generations. By engaging with local communities and educating young people through school outreach and museum exhibits, the initiative hopes to deepen appreciation for the cultural significance of bark cloth. Additionally, the project will celebrate this heritage by organising a fashion exhibition that connects traditional craftsmanship with contemporary styles, reaffirming bark cloth’s place in Zambia’s cultural identity.
