Short Description
Main Objective
Siaya County is a region rich in cultural traditions but currently facing the loss of its intangible heritage due to the ageing of knowledge holders and lack of preservation infrastructure. The main objective of UYCDP’S project is to establish a sustainable Cultural Heritage Information Centre that will serve as a safe space for the preservation, display and promotion of local crafts, oral histories and traditional practices. Through the centre, the project will train community members in identifying and managing cultural heritage, thereby strengthening local capacity and ensuring intergenerational transfer of knowledge. The initiative also aims to support economic empowerment by creating opportunities for artisans and promoting eco tourism, while fostering community ownership and pride in the cultural identity of the area.
