Short Description
Main Objective
The project aims to preserve the rich and endangered oral literature of the Bedouin tribes residing along Egypt’s northern coast, from Matrouh to Salloum. This oral heritage, encompassing poetry, proverbs, praise songs, stories, and historical narratives, offers a vital insight into the nomadic Bedouin culture and values that are at risk due to changing lifestyles and the dwindling number of elder knowledge holders.
By employing modern technology, including audiovisual recordings and a digital archive, the project seeks to systematically document, transcribe, and safeguard these oral traditions for future generations. Through collaboration with Bedouin communities and cultural institutions, the project also intends to enhance local capacities, raise public awareness, and create sustainable mechanisms for the ongoing preservation and celebration of this unique cultural legacy.
