Short Description
Main Objective
The Gieneri Village Local Museum restoration project aims to reconstruct and upgrade the museum’s infrastructure to protect valuable cultural artifacts and historical materials tied to the community’s heritage. This includes building a purpose-built facility with improved roofing, protective fencing, visitor amenities, and revamped exhibitions and signage to better showcase local history and culture. The project also focuses on capacity building through training workshops for museum staff, youth tour guides, and community members, enhancing skills in exhibition management, heritage conservation, and sustainable tourism. By revitalising the museum as a cultural hub, the project seeks to boost tourism, create economic opportunities, reduce rural-urban migration, and support the sustainable development of the Gieneri community and surrounding region.
This project was supported through HerMaP Gambia, implemented by HERITΛGE and co-funded by the European Union and the Mellon Foundation, as part of the Africa Grants Program.
