Short Description
Main Objective
Rabih’s Fort was constructed between 1893-1900 and was an integral part of El-Kanemi Dynasty of Borno, the longest serving dynasty in Africa. It was designated as a National Monument in 1959 to reflect this. However, the main earthen Palace and surrounding structures, including the armoury and German colonial residence, are now in a state of disrepair and reconstruction works are needed to safeguard the tangible and intangible heritage of the site. The proposed works include carrying out a sympathetic reconstruction of Rabih’s Armoury and the German Colonial Residence as well as the main Palace site and Fort Entrance / the Prison Yards which will benefit the local community and increase tourist potential in the area.
