Short Description
Main Objective
This project aims to preserve and enhance the cultural and natural heritage of the Kingdom of Pobè, focusing on the sacred forest of Ookpo, home to the deity Ondo and several other divinities. The site holds significant cultural and ecological value, hosting biodiversity and spiritual practices, including the UNESCO-listed Guèlèdè tradition and a unique religious syncretism. However, the forest is currently neglected, facing environmental degradation, disrespect for sacred spaces, and dilapidated shrine infrastructure.
The project will raise awareness among local stakeholders about the forest’s value and create a sustainable, community-led management model. It also seeks to turn the site into a tourism asset, generating income for the local population.
**UPDATE: CACD-ONG has recently received a national for its innovative actions in community development and youth empowerment. They are also finalists for the Global Sustainability Awards 2025 and have won a trophy, which will be presented at a ceremony in India on November 1–2.
