Short Description
Main Objective
The former holiday home of President Mobutu was constructed in 1927 by Governor Paul Costerman. Whilst it was refurbished in 1978, the building has been deteriorating since 1996 and is in an advanced state of disrepair.
The project aims to restore the historic building so that it can be utilised by the community; the main building will be transformed into a museum with an exhibition room for works of ancient art representing the cultural values of the Bahavu and Pygmy peoples. The thatched bungalows will be used for accommodation. A large festival hall will also be constructed for ceremonies and as a source of further income which will be shared between the local community.
