Short Description
Main Objective
PAZESA Horticultural Community’s project seeks to revitalise the Chewa Livelihood Training Centre in Kalichero, Zambia, by establishing eco-friendly tourism infrastructure aimed at preserving Chewa cultural heritage, the local environment, and biodiversity. The Centre is currently under threat from encroachment, deforestation, and environmental contamination, all of which endanger the survival of Chewa ancestral knowledge and sustainable practices. To address this, the project will restore the Centre and provide training for women and youth in traditional, climate-resilient livelihoods.
Key activities will include the construction of eco-friendly chalets to host cultural skills training and knowledge exchange camps, alongside the installation of solar-powered electricity and water systems to enhance the Centre’s facilities. Further conservation methods Conservation measures will include fencing 28 fishponds and revitalising the Fish Breeding HUB, enabling 100 women and youth to engage in climate-smart fish farming. Additionally, 10,000 agroforestry trees will be planted to create a green belt that supports biodiversity, provides organic fertiliser, and supplies natural fish feed. The project ultimately aims to strengthen community resilience to climate change, promote Chewa indigenous identity, and contribute to long-term economic empowerment in the Kalichero area.
