Short Description
Main Objective
The Debbis site in Somalia brings together an ancient burial ground, notable rock art, and a nearby wildlife sanctuary that protects confiscated and endangered animals. Together, these elements highlight the region’s cultural and natural heritage. This project proposes the creation of a visitor trail that begins at the sanctuary and leads to the burial site, with educational charts provided in both Somali and English. It also includes improvements to the sanctuary’s fencing and gates, using locally sourced materials that harmonize with the surrounding landscape. After consultations with the community to finalize the trail layout and signage, materials will be procured and installed, and local guides will receive training. Once complete, the trail will be officially opened and then monitored to ensure it is used effectively and to identify any adjustments that may be needed.
