Main Objective
The project aims to safeguard and document the traditional pottery and basketry crafts of Sinkat Locality in Sudan’s Red Sea State, preserving these cultural industries amid ongoing conflict. By conducting surveys, providing training workshops for craftsmen, and raising community awareness about intellectual property rights, the initiative supports the sustainability of local livelihoods and cultural heritage. The project aligns with UNESCO conventions on intangible cultural heritage and cultural diversity, emphasising community engagement, capacity building, and the economic and cultural significance of traditional craftsmanship.
