Short Description
Main Objective
This project focuses on promoting and safeguarding the cultural significance of the Royal Court of Tiébélé, a UNESCO-listed site in the Kassena region of southern Burkina Faso. Built in the fifteenth century, the Royal Court is renowned for its unique earthen architecture decorated with symbolic geometric patterns, reflecting the traditions of the Kassena people. Through awareness campaigns, school and university outreach, radio broadcasts, theatre forums, and training for youth and local guides, Association Terre d’Espoir’s project aims to educate the local population on the historical and cultural value of the Royal Court. Activities will encourage the community to take pride in the site and understand the socio-economic benefits of cultural tourism. The Royal Court, maintained annually by village women, will serve as both a symbol and a practical resource for sustainable tourism. Supported by national heritage and tourism bodies, the project will also strengthen local capacity to manage and benefit from increased tourism, while ensuring the long-term preservation and visibility of the site.
