Main Objective
The Rwamwanja settlement was established in Uganda to host refugees from Rwanda in 1965. It now has a population of over 65,000 people.
Rwenzori Sustainable Trade Center aims to work with women from the Rwamwanja settlement to provide opportunities for training in-group working, group participation, group management, financial skills, weaving, dye mixing, design skills, and producing quality products for local and international buyers.The project will ultimately create income earning opportunities for these refugee artisans through training and capacity building.
Outcomes
Protecting the skills and traditions in handicraft making and transmitting them to 100 refugee artisans in the
Rwamwanja settlement in Western Uganda.
The trainees will also be able to export their handmade products and receive a fair payment benefiting the local community.
