Major flooding of the town in 2002 severely damaged the site’s facades and window frames, the tourist path, the original furnishings, exhibition halls, education tool, and crematorium. Being an important site of remembrance, memorial, and education, the city developed a long-term plan for its repair and maintenance, the economic burden of which was considerable.

Marine weathering has been primarily responsible for the deterioration of the city walls constructed on bedrock, in the coast of northern Israel. However the city walls found on un-consolidated bedrock risk collapse, and risk being lost forever. In the past these walls were not at risk, it is the change in the sea level, and the associated change in the coastal area which has resulted in a threat to this site.

Twenty years ago a moat surrounded the castle but today it is surrounded by a lush lawn; the water of the moat has dried up. This was due to an increase in environmental temperature, which has resulted in its desiccation and hence a change in its landscape.

This Megalithic temple is one of the oldest examples of architecture in the world, and it has suffered greatly over the years due to its exposure to the environment. Stone weathering is the main source of deterioration, as a result of the presence of salts within the stone megaliths (due to its close proximity to the sea) and changes in temperature and RH levels. Wind-driven rain has also helped has also helped amplify the deterioration.

Residing in an important trans-shipment location between India and Bokhar, the toll gate was built to collect tolls from Persian and Chinese Turkestan traders on their trans-national trade routes. The toll gate experienced severe damage in 2012 from heavy rainfall (particularly harmful to to mud-structuresand in 2011 from earthquakes, in March (5.7 Richter) and May (5.9 Richter). Extreme rain and drought have become more frequent because of climate change.

Heavy snows in February, 2012, caused temporary shutdown of the monument. The snow and freezing temperatures had the greatest effect on the walls and plaster masonry, causing parts to freeze and fall off, or collapse due to the added weight. Such temperatures are rare, occurring about once every 30 years.

The conservation of organic materials of the hunting tools (wood, bone, antler, hide, sinew, feathers, and mastics), is currently under threat as the alpine ice patches are melting at an alarming rate. Such Organic materials are preserved in excellent conditions in absence of oxygen, such as underwater or in ice, but quickly decompose the moment they come in contact with air and normal conditions.
