Dr Alexis Stefanis,
is an Associate Professor at the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art of the University of West Attica, Greece. He has been involved in many research projects and has produced a significant number of studies and publications concerning the conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of architectural heritage.
Conservation of cultural heritage refers to the measures taken to extend the life of cultural heritage while strengthening transmission of its significant heritage messages and values. In the domain of cultural property, the aim of conservation is to maintain the physical and cultural characteristics of the object and to ensure that its value will not be diminished.
HERITΛGE provides scholarships to most participants in its training programmes. These scholarships can cover up to 90% of the cost of attendance, depending on the circumstances of the participants and the availability of funding. Read more on Fees & Scholarships.

On successfully completing the workshop students will be able to:
- understand the fundamental theory and ethics of conservation
- learn about the origins, history, and development of conservation
- know the international charters that define conservation
- become familiar with the international organizations and their activities
- identify the needs in conservation of the sites they manage
