HerMaP Gambia, a pioneering initiative co-funded by the European Union, has been pivotal in elevating the cultural, creative, and sports industries within The Gambia since its establishment in 2020. At its core, this program was conceived with a visionary purpose: to fortify these essential sectors, serving as catalysts for social and economic advancement while presenting innovative avenues for job creation.
Our Vision
Through HerMaP Gambia, an Action co-funded by the European Union. our aspiration is to enrich the understanding and appreciation of Gambian cultural heritage while enhancing the capacity of key stakeholders in the cultural sector. By doing so, we aim to pave the way for sustainable socio-economic growth within The Gambia. Our primary focus remains on nurturing and enhancing the management and appreciation of Gambian Cultural Heritage.
Overall Objective: Our primary aim is to contribute significantly to the enhancement of cultural, creative, and sports industries, positioning them as pivotal drivers for social and economic development in The Gambia. By doing so, we strive to initiate opportunities for sustainable job growth and community development.
Specific Objectives and Outcomes:
- Enhanced Management of Gambian Cultural Heritage: We focus on elevating the value and management of Gambian cultural heritage. This involves increasing awareness and knowledge among decision-makers, tourism professionals, community members, public opinion leaders, and representatives of public authorities regarding Cultural Heritage Management (CHM).
- Strengthened Capabilities in Cultural Heritage-Focused Tourism: Our efforts are directed towards boosting the capabilities of professionals within the cultural heritage-focused tourism sector, aiming to enhance their skills, expertise, and effectiveness in promoting and preserving Gambian cultural heritage.
- Enhanced Collaboration and Synergy: We endeavor to foster collaboration between the cultural-heritage, creative, and sports sectors with academia and tourism-focused Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). By facilitating such collaborations, we aim to create synergies that drive innovation, knowledge exchange, and mutual growth among these sectors.
